So many times I have heard “Travelling changes people”, “Oh, did you find yourself out in Australia?” and “They say you come back a different person after travelling”. I guess everyone has their own experiences and adventures, but I can honestly say that for many, travelling has BRILLIANT outcomes on personality… and definitely for the better!
So here are my reasons why travelling makes you fabulous:
Confidence – So you’ve travelled to the other side of the world, lived with complete strangers, been taken out by that handsome Italian guy, and travelled pretty much where ever you’ve wanted for the past 6 weeks/3 Months/YEAR. How amazing is that! Travel gives you something you didn’t have before, a sense of achievement I think. It makes a huge change from living and working on repeat in the same place, with rare chances to meet new people and go to new places. If you’re looking for a way to boost your confidence, then travelling is somewhere to start.
Conversational – Did you ever tell that story about your routine day at work, followed by how you forgot to hang your washing up, and undercooked your pasta? No, I didn’t think so, and if you did…. well, it’s those little changes to our mundane lives which is all there really is to talk about sometimes. If your tired of seeing your besties falling to sleep when you start telling stories, or find it hard to spark interesting conversations with those around you, travel may be your answer. There is nothing more interesting than a story from around the world. It’s not just the scenery that will fill the bookcase in your mind with incredible tales, but it’s also the unexpected moments, and seeing how people live around the world that’ll fill your hearts and memories. It’s this gold dust that people want to listen to. How they “really can’t believe you did that!!”, How you “really met that person”, and “WOW, I NEED TO GO THERE”. You’ll really see the difference travelling makes to your conversational skills.
Social – It is all to easy to get caught up in the long hour, unsociable work life. Or maybe you just find talking to those who pass you on your commute to work, weird. But there is a whole world full of people out there, some in the same boat as you, and some ready to share their stories/knowledge with you. So, how do you know who is who?….. Well there isn’t really any way to tell, you just have to be the one who starts talking or starts listening. When you are travelling, you’ll soon realise, if you don’t talk you can’t expect to find new places and meet new friends. Whether you like it or not, people will start talking to you, and if you’re keen to become more sociable, this is the best way to go about it. Right in at the deep end, meeting new people can lead you on an adventure you may never have planned before. You may even meet someone who becomes a life long friend. In fact, I’m certain you will.
Attractive – I’m not talking about brown skin and beach bodies here. You’re probably thinking how on earth can travelling make you attractive?! I’m a very strong believer in beauty is not only on the outside and that most of it comes from within. I couldn’t think of a more attractive person, than one who is independent and able to take on the world alone. Travelling is not easy, and there’s you, taking the world in your stride. There’s no time left for running around after heart breakers, you’re too busy hopping onto the next boat and chasing your dreams!
Chilled out – Once you’ve realised that it doesn’t matter which option you take, in all paths and journeys you can find happiness if you stop worrying. That time you decided to hop onto that bus to see something you hadn’t planned for, or took the advice to kayak to a hidden cave at sunrise. As long as you keep yourself safe, you’ll realise how much is out there if you just go with the flow. You will start applying this at home. Travel makes you a far more relaxed and calm person.
Happy – Somewhere between leaving home and getting back, you start a new chapter in your life. A journey only you’ve taken. You may not realise until your back in the comfort of your cosy, warm bed, but you’ll look back at how much you’ve learnt, and realise what made you happiest about being away and what makes you happy now. How can you not be happy at how far you’ve come!? Travel will live with you forever and bring you happiness in many shapes and forms.
